Sveaterminalen- larger than imagined
Port of Gothenburg plans to build a new railway terminal under the name Sveaterminalen, in the area Skandiahamnen, which is expected to be ready for the first half of 2020.
At the terminal there will be one of, if not the world's largest, storage tents with an area of 21,600 square meters, which is just as large as three football fields together. The entire plot for the project amounts to 45,000 square meters, which is considerably larger than it was first planned. In addition to a rail track that leads directly into the weather-protected tent, four adjourned tracks will enter the terminal.
- We will have increased opportunities for fast, efficient and weather-protected transshipment of even larger freight volumes, which is in demand from the market. At the same time, the new tracks will add needed flexibility to the rail system becoming less sensitive to disturbances than previous. Sveaterminalen will be a lift for Gothenburg's port in general, and not least for the port's rail offer, says Stig-Göran Thorén, Senior Manager Business Development at Port of Gothenburg.
