New alliances shape future logistics – APM Terminals Gothenburg strengthens its position

The shipping landscape has undergone significant changes, with old alliances dissolving and new ones forming. After months of anticipation, a new logistics map is emerging, positioning APM Terminals Gothenburg as a key player.

At the beginning of this year, Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd announced the formation of the Gemini Cooperation alliance. According to the shipping APM Terminals Gothenburg was selected as one of the strategic ports in this exclusive Northern Europe-Asia line network.

In addition, MSC recently announced the start of a brand new direct line between APM Terminals Gothenburg and Asia. As of February next year, APM Terminal’s customers will thus have access to an extended range of options for Asian traffic.

"We are both proud and grateful that the shipping companies have chosen to invest in APM Terminals Gothenburg. Having access to a wide and flexible range of several strong products from a single port provides great benefits for our customers," says Brian Bitsch, CCO at APM Terminals Gothenburg.

Preparing for Growth: Flexible Solutions for Higher Volumes

With this expanded service portfolio and the ongoing renovation of the southern quay, APM Terminals Gothenburg is prepared to handle increased operational demands.

“We’ve laid out solid plans to manage the rising volume. It will require dynamic ship planning and creative solutions, but we’re ready,” says Jasmin Mujdzic, Operational Manager at APM Terminals Gothenburg.

Record import volumes in August

August saw record import volumes at APM Terminals Gothenburg, second only to the pandemic peaks. The inflow, driven largely by Christmas goods, was efficiently distributed across the country via the terminal's extensive rail network.

“Many companies, learning from the pandemic, have secured their supply chains by advancing their holiday orders,” says Per Wahlström, Market Analyst at APM Terminals Gothenburg. He adds, “The surge in import volumes also signals easing inflation, giving consumers more spending power.”
