Direct Line Between Bastuträsk in Northern Sweden and the World, via APM Terminals Gothenburg

Exciting plans are underway for a brand-new railway shuttle service connecting Bastuträsk and APM Terminals in Gothenburg, offering two weekly departures. This innovative rail link promises not only fresh opportunities for the northern Swedish industry but also substantial environmental gains.

At the forefront of this initiative are Holmen and the Swedish forest logistics company Träfraktkontoret. The concept involves loading timber products at the recently expanded Bastuträsk terminal, located just fifty kilometres west of Skellefteå, and transporting them to APM Terminals in Gothenburg.

"This logistics chain presents an excellent alternative to smaller feeder ports, delivering significant CO2 savings for businesses opting for this solution. Furthermore, it promises remarkable time efficiency. In practice, a company can submit its cargo, and within a mere 48 hours, the goods will be aboard an ocean vessel bound for global destinations," explains Per Rud-Petersen, the head of Holmen's terminal in Bastuträsk.

"We are immensely pleased that Holmen and Träfraktkontoret are spearheading this railway connection to APM Terminals in Gothenburg. This solution represents an additional eco-friendly and efficient direct gateway from northern Sweden to the global market, offering substantial advantages to the Swedish forestry industry and all those seeking a dependable logistics solution with minimal environmental impact," states Svante Altås, Sales and Railway Expert at APM Terminals Gothenburg.
