Extra capacity during the year for on-time delivery of Christmas presents

The global transport system being unstable not only affects large companies and the entire global economy, it also affects you and me. Christmas is rapidly approaching and many people are wondering whether their gifts will arrive on time.

Despite the logistical challenges facing the world, APM Terminals Gothenburg has been able to maintain the same, if not better, service to customers.

“Thanks to proactive work, creative solutions in close cooperation with customers and partners, and hard work by APM Terminals’ employees, we have been able to help our customers when they need it most while enabling Swedish stores to fill their shelves for Christmas,” says Magnus Lundberg, Commercial Manager at APM Terminals Gothenburg.

Extra ships and trains loaded with Christmas presents

Import volumes via APM Terminals Gothenburg have increased significantly and the need for extra capacity has periodically been great.

“APM Terminals Gothenburg is the only terminal in Sweden that has increased the number of feeder calls, and every week we have received several extra vessels. At the same time, we have increased capacity to be able to service larger vessels and handle more volume in the same amount of time,” says Martin Karlsson, operational manager at APM Terminals Gothenburg.

In November alone, rail volumes increased by 35% compared with the same period last year, an increase that is mainly driven by strong and accelerating import volumes.

“This year, Christmas presents are being shipped green and we are seeing that this trend is only continuing as our existing customers are increasing their rail volumes even further. At the same time, we are welcoming new rail shuttles from different parts of the country,” concludes Magnus Lundberg.
