General cargo vessel handling first for break-bulk at APM Terminals Gothenburg

To accommodate our customers growing demands for shipping break-bulk cargo, APM Terminals Gothenburg has carried out its first Break Bulk cargo lift from a general cargo vessel.

Last month, APM terminals Gothenburg successfully offloaded a 14m, 31,000kg tank, from the Baltic Madonna general cargo vessel. Using a Super Post Panamax crane equipped with soft slings, the tanks was lifted directly onto a truck for further transport to the Preem refinery.

Break Bulk cargo significantly exceeds the size and/or weight of a standard container and includes things like yachts, masts, industrial machines or train carriages. The majority of this type of cargo has previously been loaded/unloaded from a container vessel.

This alternative solution provides direct loading/unloading of cargo between the vessel and truck, without intermediaries or other interruptions. As with the terminals existing break-bulk solutions, it offers just a single point of contact for all breakbulk related questions at the port and terminal via email bbk.got@apmterminals.com. The terminals dedicated expert team always respond within one business day.
