The Port of Lazaro Cardenas receives Hapag-Lloyd vessels on an import service from Asian ports

The Port of Lazaro Cardenas has been selected to be part of the ports of call on the itinerary of Hapag-Lloyd's EC2 service. This service involves unloading import containers from Asian ports at the APM Terminals Lazaro Cardenas container terminal, with destination to North American ports.

Port of Lazaro Cardenas is the only one on the Mexican Pacific that will receive vessels from this service, which operates on a weekly basis and passes through five Asian ports in northern and central China and Korea before reaching Lazaro Cardenas and arriving in North America.

This service consists of 12 vessels with a nominal capacity of 13,470 TEUs, 366 meters in length, and 141,077 gross registered tonnage. All vessels are operated by Hapag-Lloyd.

This week, the first vessel of this service, the UMM SALAL, arrived at the APM Terminals Lazaro Cardenas container terminal, carrying cargo from North American importers who are expanding their maritime services to take advantage of Lazaro Cardenas' location and capacity, driven by nearshoring and the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USTR).

With this new integration, Hapag-Lloyd, the German shipping company, reaffirms its confidence and strong commitment to containerized cargo movement through the Port of Lazaro Cardenas and its specialized terminals, such as APM Terminals in Mexico.
