APM Terminals Callao: Import volumes at the North Pier of the Port of Callao have increased by 15%

During the first half of the year, there has been a significant increase in the volume of various products such as wheat and corn, steel coils and heavy machinery.

Since the beginning of this year, APM Terminals Callao, concessionaire of the Callao Multipurpose North Terminal, has received a total of 780 ships of all types and composition, which highlights the efficiency and capacity of the terminal to meet global demand with the agility and flexibility that only Callao can offer. These ships represent an increase of up to 15% in import volumes, compared to the same period last year, reaffirming the role of the Port of Callao in international trade.

Thanks to its commitment to continuous improvement, APM Terminals Callao has increased its containerized cargo operation speed by 11%, without affecting its high quality and safety standards. This allows shipping lines to gain sailing time, thus supporting cost reductions in the entire logistics chain.

“APM Terminals Callao remains committed to the efficiency and development of the Callao Multipurpose North Terminal. We will continue to implement technological and operational improvements to further reduce unloading times and increase our capacity to handle higher cargo volumes, this in line with the progress we have been making for stage 3A of the expansion. Our goal is to continue to be a leading port in the region, providing high quality services to our customers,” said Fernando Fauche, commercial director of APM Terminals Callao.

Shippers arriving at APM Terminals Callao North Terminal carry a wide variety of cargoes, reflecting the terminal's versatility and capacity to handle different types of goods. These include solid bulk such as wheat and corn, breakbulk construction materials such as steel and cement, automotive products such as cars and heavy machinery, as well as sensitive cargo such as refrigerated cargo. This cargo diversity highlights the efficiency and adaptability of our operations to meet the diverse needs of the market.

During the first half of the year, we have seen a significant increase in the volume of various products. Wheat and corn imports grew by approximately 15%. In the steel sector, steel coils have experienced an increase of close to 20%. Part of the automotive sector, which includes heavy machinery, has registered an increase of around 30% compared to the same period last year. Likewise, accompanying the agricultural export development, APM Terminals Callao has a superlative installed capacity (in electrical outlets and special services) in the face of the growing refrigerated export seasons in general; all this revalidates and strengthens the North Pier of the Port of Callao as a strategic point of agro-export at national level.

“We will continue to continually improve ourselves to remain the key node in global maritime trade,” Fernando Fauche concluded.
