APM Terminals Bahrain automates its Gate Operations

With the new gate automation, the terminal has taken an important step towards its transformation journey with the ambition to be the Best Terminal Company that takes care of its people, empowers its customers, and engages with its communities.

The new investment of USD 2.1 million (approx. BHD800,000), and a two-year development project will greatly decrease the amount of manual work required per gate transaction via a system of OCR cameras, appointment systems, and other technologies.

APM Terminals Bahrain’s automated gates will reduce the turnaround time by ensuring quick loading and unloading processes and therefore reduce the risk of bottleneck situations at the port. Customers will have the advantage of an extended gate service as port gates will operate 24/7.

Furthermore, we are also on schedule to launch another technological upgrade with our new Truck Appointment System (TAS) which will allow customers to increase their capacity and give external trucking companies the added benefit of scheduled appointments creating an easier flow of trucks inside the terminal resulting in faster turnaround times, and more dynamic business capacity.

Gate automation is scheduled to be operational by mid- August 2023.
