APM Terminals Poti Supports the establishment of Crane and Lifting Simulator Lab at Poti Maritime Training Center
APM Terminals Poti – JSC Poti Sea Port Corporation has donated an ARI Crane and Lifting Simulator to Poti Maritime Training Center, the branch of Batumi State Maritime Academy on March 30, 2021.
The Simulator which simulates the operation of 6 types of port and construction equipment: Mobile Harbour Crane (MHC), Ship-to-Shore (STS) Crane, Rubber-Tyred Gantry (RTG) Crane, Container Truck, Forklift, and Excavator, will be deployed for the in-class trainings at Maritime Academy. STS and RTG Cranes are not yet used in Georgia, but with Poti's forthcoming new deep-water port expansion, STS & RTG operating skills will be certainly essential.
APM Terminals Poti’s Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy primarily focuses on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal for Quality Education and therefore, the company actively supports educational initiatives.
"This solid investment once again demonstrates our focus on long-term and sustainable development and is a clear representation of our commitment to ensure high-quality vocational education opportunities in Poti, as in the main logistics hub in the country and the region. We believe that establishing an international-standard vocational institution for the seaport city and the development of the local workforce, is only possible through effective collaboration with the government and educational institutions; therefore, we work consistently to ensure this initiative rightly serves its purpose. Besides this, the project is critical in terms of enlivening Poti’s social functioning" - Keld Mosgaard Christensen, Managing Director of APM Terminals Poti.
A Memorandum of Understanding and cooperation between APM Terminals Poti – JSC Poti Sea Port Corporation and Poti Training Center of the Batumi State Maritime Academy has been signed at a ceremony on March 30, in Poti.
