Over the weekend APM Terminals Valencia successfully moved the two new Liebherr Triple-E STS cranes that now shape the new skyline of the Levante quay. These cranes arrived dismantled in September and Mammoet and Liebherr teams, supervised by the APM Terminals technical department, have been assembling them in parallel for 18 weeks on an area close to the terminal
On a trailer able to move the 1,400 tonnes that each machine weighs, crane number 15 was the first to be moved on Saturday 25th January. At around 8:00 in the morning it crossed the road and accessed the terminal, to be aligned on the quay's rails. Once unloaded, in the afternoon, the trailer returned to the assembly area to load STS 14. The transfer of this other crane took place on Sunday.
The new cranes at APM Terminals Valencia have a height under spreader of 54 metres, substantially improving the technical and operational capacities at the terminal and enabling it to serve the largest container ships in service. The new machinery is expected to be operational in the second quarter of 2025.
