APM Terminals Pipavav increases efficiency by reducing running hours per move

As part of its Way of Working, APM Terminals Pipavav [GPPL] has completed a Kaikaku Kaizen event focused on lifting the standard of operational efficiency by reducing running hours per move. The event resulted in optimized processes, waste elimination, reduced cycle times, and improved overall quality which will lead to increased customer satisfaction, enhanced competitiveness, and cost savings.

The goal of a Kaikaku Kaizen is to make substantial changes to regular processes that deliver significant positive results. By identifying and addressing bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and waste, the event sought to streamline operations, optimize resource utilization, and increase overall productivity.

A diverse cross functional team, made up of employees from different departments and levels, provided a wide range of perspectives and expertise through brain storming sessions. Detailed data analysis was conducted to identify areas with excessive running hours per move. Root cause analysis techniques were deployed to pinpoint underlying issues. Finally, countermeasures and improvement strategies were developed and implemented to address the pain points.

The Kaikaku Kaizen event provided valuable insights and potential for radical transformation within the business. By challenging the status quo and embracing change, organizations can achieve substantial improvements in operational efficiency. The event also contributed to the company’s culture of continuous improvement by empowering employees to identify and address inefficiencies proactively.

The success of this event serves as a catalyst for future Kaikaku Kaizen initiatives and a culture of innovation, agility, and continuous improvement.
