Sustainable and green choices for the terminal

From the very first pen mark in the development of the terminal, sustainability has been a key point on the agenda. APM Terminals Maasvlakte II has been operating very green from the beginning and is C02-emission free. Our cranes regenerate energy. Water is pumped from a depth of 160 meters to warm and cool our buildings. This and much more is all conceived for the construction of the terminal to create a green terminal that is also ready for the future. Sustainability is an important aspect of our business. It is essential to continue to be a green and sustainable terminal and make environmentally conscious choices for the terminal.

Soon: LED lighting in our yard

We currently have halogen lighting in our yard, which will soon need to be replaced. With the replacement, a sustainable solution has been chosen, namely LED lighting. In addition, a significant energy reduction of approximately 500,000Kwh/year will be realized. Installation is expected to begin in December 2022/January 2023.

Electric terminal tractors

With the focus on a sustainable and green future, six fully electric terminal tractors have been ordered. These electric terminal tractors are expected to be used at the terminal in January 2023.

Speed of automatic vehicles

The travel speed of the automatic vehicles was adjusted. Since the L-AGV now maintains a constant speed, it uses less energy, and the wear and tear process are slowed down. This optimization of the L-AGV ride does not affect the operation, but it is more sustainable.
