Carlos Arias appointed new CEO for APM Terminals Callao

carlos-ariasCurrent Manging Director at APM Terminals Spanish Gateways, Carlos Arias, will assume the role of CEO, APM Terminals Callao, effective 1 April 2024. He will take over for Lars Vang Christensen who is appointed Head of Joint Ventures & Strategic Partnerships based in Barcelona.

Carlos's proven expertise in spearheading the unification of Spanish Gateways, coupled with his exceptional leadership, is poised to lead to growth and development for the port of Callao. Under his leadership, we anticipate elevating the terminal’s standard of connectivity, setting new benchmarks and exceeding expectations for our valued customers," said Leo Huisman, Regional Managing Director Americas at AMP Terminals.

Arias has experience spanning more than three decades in shipping and terminals. During his career, he has held several senior leadership roles, including leading the setup of Maersk Operations Centres. In 2020, Arias joined APM Terminals as Managing Director, Spanish Gateways, leading the unification of the company’s four import and export terminals in Spain - Valencia, Barcelona, Castellon, and Gijon. He has served as a board member for several organisations, including APM Terminals Algeciras and Spanish Gateways.

Arias is a native from Spain and served as an officer of the Spanish Merchant Marine. He has completed various programs in business administration and leadership from the IMD Business School in Switzerland and Institut Européen d'Administration des Affaires (INSEAD) in France.

Arias will assume his new responsibilities in Peru on 1 April, at which time Lars Vang Christensen will officially take over as Head of Joint Ventures & Strategic Partnerships, where he will be continuing to share his experience of more than three decades in various strategic roles within the group with a broad international and cultural understanding.

In December, APM Terminals Callao announced the beginning of works of stage 3A of the Multipurpose North Terminal Modernization Project in the Port of Callao, which includes the construction of a battery of 12 vertical silos for clean grains, which will increase capacity from 25,000 to 85,000 tons. In addition, the project includes the acquisition and installation of two continuous free-flow solid grain unloaders, which will improve unloading productivity, as well as the construction of 2.13 hectares of paved areas and significant improvements at the access gate for general cargo.
