APM Terminals Algeciras plants the seed of sustainability in schoolchildren

Celebrated a new edition of Go Green, this year with the slogan ‘Nothing goes to waste’.

APM Terminals Algeciras hosted today a new edition of the environmental initiative Go Green. An event that included awareness-raising activities for schoolchildren from the Parque del Estrecho school, linked to this year's motto ‘Nothing goes to waste’. In addition, during the institutional act, Jurgi Areizaga, director of the Green Office of the Port Authority Bay of Algeciras (APBA), presented the most outstanding projects of the Green Strategy, and Jesús Martínez Linares, a prominent speaker on sustainability, gave an interesting talk in which he invited the attendees, and citizens in general, to ‘put the world in their hands’ to act locally for the Great Alliance for the Planet.

"Waste management for us at APM Terminals is a strategic imperative. We have a responsibility to minimise the environmental impact of our operations, comply with regulations and live up to our customers‘expectations,’ said Alberto Rodríguez, HSSE Director of APM Terminals Algeciras, who highlighted the importance of dates such as Go Green to ‘’plant the seed of sustainability in future generations‘’.

During the day, the schoolchildren visited different spots of the terminal to receive information about recycling, about the pollution prevention equipment available at the terminal, about The Ocean cleanup -the organisation that develops and tests technologies with the aim of removing 90% of plastics from the sea by 2040-, and about the new generation of Maersk ships that are already sailing with methanol.

Introduction of APBA Green Office

During the APBA Green Office's intervention, Areizaga introduced the history of the port institution in terms of the environment and sustainability, and presented the most important projects of the Green Strategy, as well as the ways of collaboration with the member companies, including APM Terminals, which was a pioneer in joining in 2022.
