APM Terminals Algeciras awards 45,000 euros to social, educational and cultural projects

APM Terminals Algeciras Sixth Social Action Awards has awarded 45,000 euros to 13 social, educational and cultural projects proposed by workers. The ceremony, on the occasion of the Feria Real of Algeciras, was once again hosted by local journalist María Quirós, of Onda Cero Algeciras.

Stakeholders and Labour Relations Director, Javier Sáez, and COO, Jesús Cáceres, highlighted the work carried out by the associations receiving the award, and recognised the commitment shown by the staff, who sponsor these initiatives, which focus on the needs of people in the Campo de Gibraltar area.

The projects selected for the Social Action Awards are focused on assisting groups in situations of social exclusion, children, people with functional diversity and illnesses. One of the most outstanding awards was sponsored by José Javier López and given to the Association of Families of Alzheimer’s Disease in Algeciras, for the acquisition of a vehicle with nine seats and an adapted lift. 

Projects for a group of people affected by autism spectrum disorder or Asperger and of Apropadis 2.0 are also noteworthy. They will prepare a space for use as a residential home and organize an adapted kitchen workshop, to promote autonomy for its users. These projects have been sponsored, in this order, by Pedro Delgado and Juan Rafael Sibajas. 

Bandera Rosa and Pelucas Solidarias de Andalucía also received a new contribution to assist cancer patients, sponsored by Mamen Guerrero and Alicia Rodríguez, respectively. And the Multiple Sclerosis Association of Campo de Gibraltar will buy material to set up psychological and speech therapy services, with a project presented by Rosa León. The Fibromialgya Association from Tarifa will acquire a hydraulic litter and an ultrasound device, sponsored by Ricardo Fernández. 

With regard to childcare, the awards will be used to finance the treatment of neurorehabilitation for two months for six children thanks to the Project for Child ictus scholarships of Caritas Diocesana Asidonia-Jerez, who has Agustín García as sponsor; for Reyes Magos 98 to buy toys for children of families with low incomes, sponsored by Juan Enrique del Río; and materials for the summer camps of the María Auxiliadora school and the Integra Tarifa association, sponsored by Cristina Gómez and Diego González, respectively.

San Antonio de Padua Church, in Algeciras, will be able to complete a warehouse for food and clothing that serves families on a daily basis, sponsored by Francisco Jiménez. And the Social Action Awards will also help to acquire a new gas kitchen for the Padre Cruceyra Social Center, sponsored by Luís Granados. 

This is APM Terminals Algeciras sixth Social Action Awards which support nonprofit entities to contribute to social development, educational, sports and cultural, involving companies and workers.
