The handling of your barges is high on the priority list. Together, we are continuously working hard to make the handling process even safer, faster, and more reliable.

Door directions

Recently, we worked on an improvement in the loading process of barges. This improvement ensures that the operational process runs better, partly because the automated vehicles do not have to turn in the automated area. This results in a faster handling of the barges. Containers are now loaded on board with a random door direction at APM Terminals Maasvlakte II.

If it is necessary for you to load the containers with a certain door direction on board, we would like to ask you to clearly indicate this in the stowage plan. Our planners will ensure that these containers will be loaded on board with the desired door direction.

Performance update barge cranes

Two of our barge cranes are made by Kalmar (QC 24 and QC 25) and one is made by Liebherr (QC 23). The different barge cranes need different maintenance and updates. A few weeks ago, QC 23 was not operational, the supplier worked together with our technical team to implement a performance update. When works like these happen, we do everything we can to minimize the impact for our customers. For example, handling barges at the deep-sea quay could be a solution in this. For this we need cooperation from all parties involved. In this way we can ensure that the waiting times for barges remains around the standard of 5 hours.
