Royal guests share ACT’s commitment to operational and sustainable excellence

APM Terminals and A.P. Moller-Maersk are committed to delivering operational and sustainable excellence in ACT, Jordan. Monday, our shared vision was marked by a visit to the terminal by HRH Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, and chairman of Maersk, Mr. Robert Uggla.

On this occasion, the terminals’ new electric equipment and charging facilities were demonstrated, as ACT is taking solid steps in the decarbonisation journey from vision to action as part of the APM Terminals’ global pilot program for electrification.

“As part of our public-private partnership for ACT, we have a shared vision with the government of Jordan to have a green gateway into Jordan and beyond. As a terminals operator, we aim to provide great value to both stakeholders and economic opportunities for the Kingdom. We are happy to solidify our shared commitment even further with the visit today,” says Jon Goldner, Chief Executive for APM Terminals in the Middle East.

The visit was accompanied by Chief Commissioner of Aqaba Special Economic Zone, H.E. Nayef H. Al-fayez, and Mr. Hussein Safadi, CEO of Aqaba Development Corporation.

During the visit, Harald Nijhof, CEO of ACT, provided an update on terminal’s performance and decarbonisation progress.

“Running an efficient terminal with safety as a top priority is key at ACT. Furthermore, we have integrated efficient berth plans and berth windows for shipping lines that enable leading productivity in the region thanks to new processes, technology and implementation of effective, standards that elevate our operations to further support our customers,” explains Harald Nijhof, adding,

"We are proud to be a forerunner in adopting electric reach stackers and empty handlers in the Middle East, and to contribute to the wider implementation of decarbonised equipment in the APM Terminals group as a pilot location for the technology. Additionally, our commitment to sustainability is evident through integrating solar energy, which reduces the environmental footprint on electricity and water consumption. Together, we want to shape a brighter, greener future for lifting global trade and our operational excellence.”
