APM Terminals Moín empowers students on project management and personal leadership

- 1st edition of LEAN benefits UCR students in Limón
- 16 UCR students in Limón stand out for their volunteering in environmental protection.
- This program will also be implemented on a quarterly basis with business and community leaders.

moin-450Young people from the University of Costa Rica (UCR) in Limón became the first students to graduate from the 1st edition of training in the internationally recognized LEAN methodology, provided by APM Terminals Moín, free of charge.

Sixteen future professionals accepted the challenge of the APM Terminals Moín Lean Academy to learn process streamlining, project management and personal leadership, skills that strengthen their preparation to face the working world.

“It is a better way to develop myself in the professional and social fields, since through the application of the methodology in everyday life we learn to streamline processes that we must face in our professional life,” said Chris Campos Jiménez, who is a student of Customs and Foreign Trade and one of the beneficiaries of the project led by the company.

For Kyle Vega Hernández, a Business Management student, “having these activities helps me to develop as an individual, with values, and also in the professional work I will be doing.

Kyle and Chris are part of the group of students who received the intensive training day, in a program with the Lean methodology that APM Terminals applies in its different terminals around the world.

“They are about to finish their studies in customs and foreign trade, business administration, tourism and English teaching. They are the future professionals of the country and potential workers for the company and therefore, from the Lean Academy of APM Terminals Moín, we want to provide them with the necessary tools to work on their critical thinking skills, teamwork, problem solving and time management, applying them with the Lean methodology, seeking to optimize processes under continuous improvement,” explained Yohan Johnson Dublin, Transformation Manager of the company.

The students had this opportunity thanks to the university community work developed in the Sea Turtle Conservation and Protection Program developed by APM Terminals Moín.

Just the beginning

According to APM Terminals' Corporate Social Responsibility Coordinator, Krizia Canton, LEAN Community seeks to get closer to the community.

“This time it was students, but in the future, every trimester, it could be business and community leaders who receive this training, recognized worldwide and which opens doors in the business world,” Canton explained.

LEAN is a methodology whose main objective is to seek greater customer satisfaction by using as few resources as possible and eliminating waste that does not add value to the processes.
