APM Terminals Moín achieves Blue Flag environmental status

Following compliance with eleven environmental parameters, APM Terminals Moín has not only obtained the Blue Flag Ecological status with a score of 100, but three White Stars received for going above and beyond in different areas, including the programs it runs with its partners.

The Blue Flag Ecology Program is a joint venture between several Costa Rican authorities, including the Costa Rican Tourism Institute, MINAE (Ministry of Environment), National Water Service, Ministry of Public Health and CANATUR (National Tourism Chamber). Its objective is to support local committees in the areas of conservation and development, including the protection of natural resources, the implementation of actions to mitigate climate change, better sanitation and improved public health of the inhabitants of Costa Rica.

To qualify in one of the twenty categories, organizations must meet ten parameters to obtain the Blue Flag, which includes legal compliance, fossil fuel management, water, wastewater treatment, electric power, waste management, air pollutants, sustainable procurement, climate change adaptation, and environmental compensation.

"The challenge is to generate a positive impact about environmental care among employees and the community, for which we are already working with different environmental education programs," commented Valeria Quesada Phillips, Environmental Coordinator.
