Go Green 2023
More than 250 children, including schoolchildren and family members of employees, participated in the environmental awareness activities of the Go Green initiative last week.
APM Terminals Algeciras has signed its adhesion to the LIFE CO2RK project to enhance the role of forests as a carbon sink, included in the EU strategy to mitigate climate change, during the closing of the Go Green environmental awareness initiative. The event was attended by the territorial delegate for Sustainability, the Environment and the Blue Economy, Óscar Curtido, the sub-delegate of the Andalusian Government in Campo de Gibraltar, Javier Rodríguez Ros, and the president of the Algeciras Bay Port Authority, Gerardo Landaluce , together with Alberto Rodríguez, HSSE director of the terminal, and Javier Sáez, director of Institutional Relations of APM Terminals in Spain.
The signing of the letter of adhesion served as the culmination of a whole week of environmental awareness activities, in which around 250 children have participated, including students from schools in Algeciras, and relatives of employees. Around the motto of this year's Go Green, Improving everyone's life, with healthy ecosystems and fighting against plastic pollution, APM Terminals Algeciras has presented data on the reduction of water, electricity and fuel consumption, and an energy project photovoltaic that will feed the terminal with 2,175 GW from the sun.
During the closing of the Go Green, the director of the Los Alcornocales Natural Park, Juan Manuel Fornell, explained the philosophy of the LIFE CO2RK project, which will begin in September with specific initiatives for the regeneration of the cork oak forest and carbon fixation, which will result in important benefits for the environment and for society. Fornell also highlighted the importance of the support of companies such as APM Terminals to obtain the approval of the European Union for this project, which includes initiatives in Spain, Italy and Portugal.
