World Bank: Port of Savona-Vado been ranked at Italy’s most efficient container port

Port of Savona-Vado has been ranked at Italy’s most efficient container ports by The Container Port Performance Index 2023 (CPPI) published this week by the World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence. Vado Gateway and Reefer Terminal are the only container terminals operating in the port.

It is also the only port in Italy to appear in the top 100 ranking, after moving up 32 places in just 1 year to become 36 out 405 ranked ports in the world.

The CPPI, is based on an extensive dataset from 405 ports worldwide, the largest to date. Time stamps from 10 of the world’s largest liner shipping companies, which collectively operate almost 80 percent of global container shipping, are collected. This equates to over 182,000 vessel calls, 238.2 million moves, and approximately 381 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) for the full calendar year of 2023.

“Recognition for the second year by ‘The Container Port Performance Index’ is for Vado Gateway a source of great satisfaction and pride,” said Santi Casciano - Managing Director Vado Gateway and Reefer Terminal.

“The reconfirmation by the World Bank of the efficiency of our port infrastructure is an indirect recognition of the daily work of the workers of Container Terminal and Reefer Terminal. The skills and experience gained by our workers, combined with the state-of-the-art equipment employed at the Vado Gateway port system are key elements behind this important result that enhances our position in the international terminal landscape,” Casciano concluded.

Overall APM Terminals’ operations featured six times in the top 10 most efficient container terminals in the world.
