APM Terminals spreads joy through CSR initiatives
As the holiday season gears up, APM Terminals teams across the globe have embraced the spirit of giving: engaging with local communities to make meaningful gestures, connections and contributions. From Costa Rica to Croatia, from Georgia to India, the commitment to social responsibility continues to uplift those most in need.
Costa Rica: “A Toy for a Smile”
In Moín, Costa Rica, the fifth edition of the “A Toy for a Smile” campaign brought joy to over 1000 children in the Talamanca, Limón, and Siquirres regions. Organized by APM Terminals and local partners, this initiative provided recreational and educational gifts aimed at promoting creativity and healthy fun. The program also included apples, grapes and candy bags to brighten the children’s day.
“We are giving joy to girls and boys,” said Krizia Cantón, Corporate Social Responsibility Coordinator at APM Terminals Moín. “Our goal is to bring smiles through these gifts and moments of happiness.”
Volunteers from APM Terminals also organized traditional games and activities for the children. Katherine López Campos, Head of Safety and Resilience, emphasized the initiative’s focus on future generations. “We believe in their potential and are thrilled to share these joyful moments with them,” she said. The distribution was made possible through partnerships with teachers, development associations and community volunteers.
Georgia: New Year’s cheer
In Poti, Georgia, APM Terminals is ensuring a memorable start to the New Year for approximately 300 children from socially vulnerable families. These children will attend a special theatre performance in January, where they’ll receive school supplies, chocolate treats and other gifts. This initiative reflects APM Terminals’ dedication to enriching the lives of local communities.
Croatia: storybooks for children in hospital
In Rijeka, Croatia, APM Terminals colleagues turned their usual business gifting tradition into a heartfelt donation. The team collected storybooks for children spending the holidays in hospitals: supporting the Portić Association’s volunteer storytellers. This initiative, chosen by the employees, underscores the company’s focus on enhancing the quality of life for those in need.
The Portić Association has been helping children cope with hospital stays for over 15 years. Volunteers spend time reading stories to hospitalized children: offering comfort and easing their isolation. More than 8,000 children have benefited from this program, which has seen over 1,600 volunteers contribute 54,000 hours of their time.
“This donation will enable us to continue our program smoothly,” said Ana Vučak, Executive Director of the Portić Association. The funds will cover essential expenses like protective medical equipment, volunteer training and app upgrades for coordinating the volunteers. Maja Borčić, Commercial Director of Rijeka Gateway, added, “This initiative reflects togetherness, giving and focusing on what truly matters.”
India: Secret Santa
At Gateway Terminals India (GTI), employees embraced the “Joy of Giving” by becoming Secret Santas for 75 children at the Zilla Parishad School. A donation box placed at the terminal’s reception allowed colleagues to contribute items from the school’s wish list. In addition to educational gifts, employees spent time with the students, engaging in fun activities and fostering a sense of community.
This was GTI’s first employee-led initiative, demonstrating the team’s strong commitment to making a difference locally. “The joy of seeing these children’s smiles is unmatched,” said one participant.
Denmark: supporting Aarhus’s homeless
In Aarhus, Denmark, APM Terminals addressed a pressing need for the local homeless population by donating a storage container to the Hjemløs I Århus organization. This container will ensure that winter clothing and supplies stay clean and dry during the harsh Danish winters, enabling the organization to allocate funds toward additional necessities instead of storage costs.
“Community care is central to our values,” said Mikael Gutman, Managing Director of APM Terminals. “We’re happy to support specific needs that make a tangible difference.”
Rikke Sejthen from Hjemløs I Århus expressed gratitude for the donation, calling it a “huge help.”
“The container ensures we can provide warm clothes to those in need and focus our resources where they matter most,” she said.
A commitment to community, locally and globally
From spreading smiles to children to supporting the homeless, APM Terminals demonstrates its dedication to communities worldwide. “Wherever we operate, we strive to care for our communities while delivering world-class service,” said Gutman.
