PTP Local School Support

The Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP), as part of its local community outreach, has provided assistance to local students, including providing school supplies and bags.

“This year will be our tenth consecutive year organizing the “Back to School Program” since it first started in 2007” noted PTP CEO Marco Neelsen, to the local Malaysian media.

“The program is just one of many education-based initiatives planned by PTP throughout the year with the aim of lessening the parents’ burden, while helping them prepare school supplies for new academic year, and bringing cheer to the students by providing them with brand-new basic equipment as they start returning to school”, stated Mr. Neelsen, adding “We see our efforts as a sound investment into the future for Johor, and Malaysia as a whole, knowing that good education is foundation of the growth and well-being of this country”.

APM Terminals holds a minority share in the facility, which has undergone a $470 million expansion with the construction of Berths 13 and 14, and upgraded cranes, increasing capacity by 24% to 12.5 million TEUs. The new facilities now handle regular ULCS calls of 18,000 TEU-class capacity vessels and above.

A major transshipment hub for the East/West trade lane, PTP ranked third in Southeast Asia and 19th globally in container throughput with 9.1 million TEUs in 2015, representing an annual growth rate of 7%, becoming once again one of the world’s fastest-growing major ports.
