Bahrain Education Outreach

Together with Bahrain Polytechnic, APM Terminals Bahrain is providing coursework in the maritime field to help prepare Bahrain’s next generation of shipping and port industry leaders.

“This initiative, in collaboration with Bahrain Polytechnic, provides opportunities to support the industry’s growing demand for quality maritime workforce and encourage a new generation to pursue careers in this dynamic industry” stated APM Terminals Bahrain Managing Director Mark Hardiman.  Bahrain Polytechnic, partner in the latest educational initiative, was established by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa by Royal Decree in 2008.

The program encompasses 36 students at Bahrain Polytechnic in the Maritime area of study. Students will receive practical and theoretical training in logistics from APM Terminals Bahrain. Specific subjects covered include “Port Development and Planning”, “Transportation of Passengers and Freight”, and “Vessel Configurations”.

As part of APM Terminals Bahrain’s educational outreach, a program for women established in 2014 has sponsored over 40 internships with permanent job offers extended to the best students. “Education is one of the global strategic pillars for APM Terminals’ CSR initiatives, with a trained and qualified workforce an essential requirement of the modern maritime sector”, added Mr. Hardiman.

APM Terminals Bahrain is a joint venture with YBA Kanoo Holdings of Bahrain. The company was established in 2006 to operate the port and offer related services within Bahrain and the contiguous areas under a 25-year concession.  Container volume in 2015 was 425,000 TEUs.
