APM Terminals Welcomes the Year of the Monkey
On February 8th the Chinese New Year ushered in 4714, the “Year of the Monkey”, the ninth year of the 12-year cycle of the Chinese signs of the zodiac. The Year of the Monkey will end on January 27, 2017.
APM Terminals has interests in 11 operating Chinese facilities in the ports of Shanghai, Ningbo, Qingdao, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Dalian and Xiamen, as well as offices in Shanghai and Hong Kong. It is worth noting that six terminals, in which APM Terminals is an investor or joint venture partner among the JOC’s 2014 Top 25 global leaders in productivity, are located at Chinese ports: Qingdao Qianwan Container Terminal, and Tianjin Port Alliance International Container Terminal tied for third place with 136 Crane Moves per Hour (MPH) with a vessel alongside; Xiamen Songyu Container Terminal, tied for sixth place with 124 MPH; Tianjin Port Euroasia International Container Terminal, is in seventh place with 121 MPH; Guangzhou South China Oceangate Container Terminal, ranked 10th with 117 MPH; and Dalian Port Container Terminal, ranked 12th, with 108 MPH.
The most recent addition to the APM Terminals Global Terminal Network in China is the newly developed Qingdao Port Dongjiakou Multi-Purpose Terminal, in which APM Terminals holds a 20% share. The Dongjiakou Port area is set to become a national bulk and energy cargo hub, with a projected volume of more than 300 million metric tons handled annually in this new complex at Qingdao, the world’s 7th-largest, and China’s 3rd-largest container port. APM Terminals will also be a minority shareholder in the new Meishan Container Terminal development at the Port of Ningbo.
