APM Terminals Maasvlakte II Opening Ceremony video

April 24th marked the opening ceremony of APM Terminals Maasvlakte II Rotterdam - a truly historic moment in APM Terminals journey, launching new levels of:

• Sustainability:

The first zero emissions container terminal in the industry.
A model for sustainable ports using wind power from Europe wind farms.
Fleet of vehicles for personnel transport- electric powered.

• Safety:

The first terminal designed to separate man and machine to achieve our safety goals.
The first terminal to have STS cranes operated by a remote operator (located in the office)

• Productivity:

The first fully-automated container terminal in the world.
The Automated Guided Vehicles were first generation to actually lift and stack a container.
The container yard is small by most terminal standards. Ability to stack higher and denser, lowers footprint.

• Better links to inland markets and stronger supply chains:

45% of activity is on inland barges.
Trucker gates:   The unmanned truck gates are small in number (6) compared to most large terminals, but throughput per gate is very high thanks to appt system and truckers cannot leave cab.
Ondock railyard.
