Moín Container Terminal welcomes larger vessels
With the arrival of the 300-meter Maersk Karachi, with a capacity of 6690 TEUs, on January 21, the Moín Container Terminal (TCM) received its second largest vessel since operations began in February 2019.
APM Terminals Moin aims to break port barriers in Limón, increasing the country's port competitiveness and opening up new opportunities for export sectors.
"This was achieved thanks to the capacity and productivity of the TCM. With a draft at berth of 14.5m and six Super-Post Panamax cranes, the terminal can accommodate vessels up to four times larger than those that could previously be handled in the Caribbean. These characteristics increase the attractiveness of the terminal as a destination for larger vessels, up to 8,500 TEU," said Carlos Fuentes, Commercial Director of APM Terminals.
The Maersk Karachi, built in 1998, arrived from Fort Lauderdale in the United States before continuing ahead of schedule to Santos Brasil Terminal. It has a draft of 10 meters, its total length is 300 meters and its width 43 meters.
Previously, two other large vessels have been received at APM Terminals Moin. In November 2019, the MSC Sara Elena was served, which has a length of 299.95 meters and capacity for 8819 TEUS and, in September 2020, the Maersk Gateshead, which is 292 meters long and has capacity for 4800 TEUS.
