TPM 2025
Lifting the standard of responsibility, with a commitment to be net zero by 2040.
As violently as the market seized up during the COVID-19 pandemic, the “extreme normalization” of 2023, coined by Maersk CEO Vincent Clerc in May, is now the market reality. With new world events continuing to change the logistics landscape and a record number of new vessels in the pipeline, 2024 has the potential to be a tough year.
At APM Terminals we can help to soften the blow. We’'re lifting the standard of responsibility by investing in new electric equipment and electrifying existing equipment, lifting the standard of digital connectivity and lifting the standard of efficiency through the adoption of lean principles across our organization. In 2024 and beyond we’re confident that we will be the terminal company that offers the most value to all of its stakeholders.
Highlights
- 6 new 23-row super-post Panamax ship-to-shore (STS) cranes commissioned at APM Terminals Port Elizabeth will lift standards of efficiency and increase capacity from 900,000 to over 1.5 million lifts.
- At APM Terminals Mobile, the fastest growing container terminal in North America is carrying out a $65 million rail expansion to double capacity in response to customer demand for more supply chain gateway options and inland rail logistics. A $108 million, 32 acre expansion is close to completion and a $35 million flyer is currently being built to bring the 80 acre Intermodal Container Transfer Facility 'on dock'.
- A US$60 million pilot program to electrify terminal handling equipment is underway at APM Terminals Mobile and APM Terminals Los Angeles. Knowledge and insights gained will drive up supply and encourage the development of industry-wide best practices.
- APM Terminals Los Angeles has implemented numerous enhancements to comply with Californian clean air targets way ahead of the deadline. These include installation of LED lighting, the launch of a Clean Truck Express Lane that gives priority to zero or low emission vehicles, electric vehicles and charging at the terminal, orders for battery electric terminal handling equipment, hybrid equipment running on biofuel and preparations to switch to renewable electricity supplies.
