APM Terminals improvements - benefits Gothenburg environment

In 2018, APM Terminals Gothenburg carried out several internal improvement projects. We have, among other things, worked to improve efficiency and the work carried out inside the terminal.

One major improvement was to broaden and double the driving routes for our straddle carriers. We changed our yard layout in favor of a more efficient and more environmentally friendly way of working on the quay.

With this project we managed to reduce the mileage for our straddle carriers by 17,000 km a year.
This equals a distance between Gothenburg and Beijing - AND back!
Which means that we use 25,000 liters less diesel every year!
A win for the environment and for Gothenburg!

Project manager Johannes Rudevärn explains: “We have planned and sketched all the solutions together, there has been much more than just rebuilding a road. The change has also included our working method on the quay. We have tested several different proposals before we started to rebuild and together we have found a safe working method that is more efficient and above all - more environmentally friendly.”

Supervisor Leif Augustinsson tells us: "During the sunny days in the middle of the summer rush in 2018, we started digging up half the quay. Thanks to good planning and good cooperation the work flowed nicely and today we can proudly look back at the change we have made at the terminal.”

In 2019, APM Terminals Gothenburg will continue to take responsibility for the environment - both inside the terminal and in Gothenburg, by continuing working on various improvement projects.
