New policy for more efficient handling of empty containers remains in place after test period
After a successful test period during the autumn, APM Terminals has decided to continue with the policy of not allowing the exchange of empty containers at the terminal in Gothenburg. This is a policy that has already shown clear improvements in both efficiency and safety.
“At Maersk Equipment, we're positive about the new policy. It hasn't just led to improved follow-ups and collaboration with APM Terminals, but has also enabled us to further raise the quality and service level we give to our customers”, says Alice Eliasson, Equipment Flow Operator at Maersk Sweden AB.
More efficient management and reduced security risks
The new policy has resulted in faster handling at the terminal by minimising the number of relifts. At the same time, potential safety risks have been greatly reduced, as truck drivers no longer need to carry out their own inspections.
Quality assurance and cost efficiency
Quality assurance of empty containers has also been strengthened via stricter inspections. This was confirmed by the low number of complaints received after the test period. By analysing complaints, the quality of the inspections has been further improved.
“This policy has allowed Maersk to take important steps toward meeting our customers’ expectations for container quality. Our goal is always to satisfy customer needs and deliver the high standards they rely on,” says Alice Eliasson.
Should any damage still be discovered after the container has left the terminal, customers can report this directly via APM Terminal’s website, which can quickly begin an investigation.
Once the damage has been assessed, repairs can be offered locally, eliminating the need to transport the container back to the terminal. This saves both time and money and contributes to a reduced environmental impact.
To further enhance processes, APM Terminals encourages customers to report any quality concerns. Feedback helps improve inspections and ensures that services align with customer expectations.
