Breaking Records and winning customer satisfaction despite challenges

With 60% of the large south quay out of use and navigating a highly challenging supply chain environment, APM Terminals Gothenburg has set new efficiency records and achieved its highest-ever customer satisfaction levels. Operations Manager Jasmin Mujdzic shares the keys to this success.

Creativity and adaptability to deliver on our promises

Since the start of construction on the Skandiaporten project, the capacity of the large south quay has been severely limited, with fewer docking spaces, less space in the yard and longer transport routes for container handling.

“Our commitment to Lean principles, innovation, and daily improvements has been instrumental,” says Jasmin Mujdzic, Operations Manager at APM Terminals Gothenburg.

'The dedication of our employees is key. They're constantly coming up with improvements - big and small - that help us continue delivering a high service level to our customers, despite the challenges', he continues.

Smart solutions for optimized flows

Among the successful innovations is the introduction of two-way traffic lanes on the quay. This improvement has reduced transport distances by 30% for exports and by 15% overall, streamlining operations and boosting productivity across the terminal.

To mitigate the impact of limited quay space, APM Terminals has introduced a new ship schedule and invested in reducing Port Stay - the time vessels spend docked. By increasing crane intensity and eliminating non-value-adding activities, the terminal has reduced Port Stay by 7% since 2021.

Progress today, preparing for tomorrow

This autumn, APM Terminals Gothenburg achieved record-breaking efficiency levels alongside its highest-ever customer satisfaction ratings.

“The year to date has seen several major advances and a fantastic response from our shipping customers', says Jasmin Mujdzic. 'We've also had several months of record-breaking volumes and beaten all-time highs in efficiency with one port visit.”

Looking ahead, APM Terminals Gothenburg is gearing up for the next year with investments in key areas such as slot times at gates, enhanced operational flows, and staff development. These efforts aim to boost efficiency and flexibility further.

“The new shipping alliances is a clear signal that we’re a trusted logistics partner,” concludes Mujdzic. “We are committed to building on that trust, no matter the challenges ahead.”
