Meet Erik Hellervik, one of our dedicated Port Operators
Calmly and confidently, he sets down another of the 38 containers that he will be loading during the first shift of the day. 'Nothing feels as rewarding as when we solve problems together and make sure the boats leave the quay on time', says Erik Hellervik, Port Operator at APM Terminals Gothenburg.
'As a crane operator, you have to keep up a certain pace to achieve your efficiency goals, even in the event of unexpected obstacles or more difficult weather conditions such as fog or wind.
This makes the work challenging and dynamic, and nothing feels as rewarding as when we solve problems together and make sure that the boats leave the quay on time', he explains.
'Cooperation, common goals, and consideration for each other' are the key to staying on schedule without ever compromising on safety'.
Erik isn't only a crane operator, gantry operator, and tallyman, he's also an instructor. Today, he's involved in training a colleague to be a crane operator on ships, a training course that requires at least 100 hours training on the operation.
'I felt the big focus on safety and the sense that the work is important and meaningful when I was a newcomer at the port, and as an instructor I want to take that approach further', he concludes.
