APM Terminals Gothenburg the first Nordic terminal with TradeLens
Complex systems, many intermediaries and manual work, result in increased costs. TradLens is a radical new tool that supports effective and safe global trade, and APM Terminals is the first terminal in the Nordic countries to implement.
A preliminary examination of the need for TradeLens, among other things, showed that a shipment of avocado from Mombasa to Rotterdam involved 30 players, more than 100 people and 200 information exchanges. The process was not only complicated, expensive and manual, but also open to bribery and fraud. Without TradeLens, the picture would have looked very similar if the the exports had been to Gothenburg.
In order to efficiently manage supply chains, reliable data from multiple sources is required. TradeLens is a neutral industry-wide tool used to securely store and transmit data and information, to facilitate collaborations for global trade.
EDI has been the industry's standard system for decades, but just like in other industries, a digital transformation is underway. We can no longer rely on data that is not real-time. EDI is expensive to install and maintain, it requires more staff and there is also a risk of the system collapsing. TradeLens opens opportunities to focus on flexibility and speed, not only in software development, but also in general operations where focus can instead be placed on other value-creating activities. Moving from an EDI system to a cloud-based and completely secure platform, which not only handles delivery data, but also digital documents, will result in immediate cost savings.
APM Terminals Gothenburg is the only terminal in the Nordic region that is directly connected to TradeLens. It allows merchants, freight forwarders, hauliers and shipping companies to ship their goods via Gothenburg to access data via TradeLens.
“Connecting to digital solutions is important for us at APM Terminals in Gothenburg. Creating efficient and secure supply chain solutions is becoming increasingly important, and we are delighted to be the only terminal in the Nordic region to enable this. The new tool also makes it possible to track goods in real time throughout the supply chain,” says Morten Brühl, CCO at APM Terminals Gothenburg.
