APM Terminals adheres to the Green Strategy of the Bahía de Algeciras Port Authority

Celebrates one more year the environmental awareness initiative Go Green

APM Terminals has shown its firm intention to support the sustainability commitments of the Port Authority with the signing of the letter of adherence to the Green Strategy of the Port of Algeciras. Roadmap in accordance with the objectives of the company, whose projects and actions have been presented within the framework of the environmental awareness initiative Go Green Fidel Ruiz, from the Sustainability Department of the APBA, and have been signed by its president, Gerardo Landaluce, and the CEO of APM Terminals West-Med Hub, Keld Pedersen.

During the environmental awareness day, which this year is celebrated under the theme Every action counts, Pedersen highlighted APM Terminals' commitment to being part of the solution for the environment, with the execution of projects to progressively eliminate the environmental impact of operations in Algeciras, in line with the objective of the Maersk group to be neutral in CO2 emissions in 2040 and reduce them by 70% in 2030.

Among these projects, Irene Rodríguez, Engineering, Reliability & Facilities Manager, mentioned the upcoming installation of solar panels on the roofs to produce 5% of the energy consumed by the terminal. She also supported the APBA initiative included in its Green Strategy to be able to supply electricity to ships at the dock, and the renovation of part of the oldest RTG fleet with electrical machinery.

In addition, the Go Green at APM Terminals Algeciras has included the presentation of a video on the management of plastic waste generated in the terminal, with visits to the clean point, the maintenance workshops and the IMO tent for the transfer of goods, with a talk on the circular economy and on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals with environmental managers from APM Terminals, and on advice to reduce emissions at home as well.
