Upgrades to terminal operating system raise the standard of connectivity

As APM Terminals' first fully automated terminal, APM Terminals Maasvlakte II (MVII) successfully went live with N4 4.0 from Kaleris. With the implementation of N4 4.0 — the terminal operating system (TOS) — the foundation is created to integrate the new Automated Terminal Trucks (ATT) and perform steps to further automate the rail terminal. N4 4.0 is also the foundation for the expansion that will double terminal capacity.

Deploying a new software version in a running terminal is a complex transition. This involves both the automation aspect sizeable components related to gate, rail and barge operations — together with the activation of our new hardware stack. Thanks to cross-functional and cross-company collaborations, everything was well prepared well in advance. This process proves, again, that preparation is key as this thoroughly prepared upgrade was very successful and deployed without any disruptions.

Serving the vessels of our customers on time and within their berth window is key, and N4 4.0 has proven it can contribute to the reliability of the terminal and help us prepare for the future.
