Enhanced Safety Measures: Additional belt enforcement and new Procedure for Cargo Card

Visiting an operational terminal comes with certain risks. We feel it is important that everyone can also leave the site safely after a visit. Therefore, there are certain basic rules that we must all follow. One of these rules is wearing a seat belt, a simple but crucial measure that is too often not followed. Therefore, we would like to draw your attention to this once again; always wear a seat belt while driving!

Recently our terminal had a week of extra focus on pedestrian safety. As a result of this week, important adjustments have been made in the procedures surrounding the use of the cargo card at the barriers of the security in. This adjustment is designed to improve the safety of both drivers and pedestrians.

Previously, the barriers opened as soon as drivers entered their cargo card and data and it was approved. It was common for drivers to then forget their cargo card, resulting in them having to drive back to the barriers to retrieve the card. This driving back increased the risk of accidents, especially for nearby pedestrians.

To address this situation, we implemented the following change.

From now on, the barriers remain closed until the driver removes the cargo card from the reader. Because the barriers open only after the card is withdrawn, the driver cannot forget the cargo card. This reduces the need to drive back to the barriers which leads to a more efficient and smooth logistics process and thus increases pedestrian safety.

We trust that this measure contributes to a safer working environment for everyone. We thank you for your cooperation and consideration of this important change. If you have any questions or comments about the new procedure, please feel free to contact Judith.versteeg@apmterminals.com.
