Mobile Science and Maths Lab launched by APM Terminals Pipavav

APM Terminals Pipavav inaugurated a Mobile Science and Maths lab for local students this week. The “lab on wheels” set up by APM Terminals Pipavav will enable local village students to perform science and maths experiments to gain practical insights and hone scientific skills.

The lab will facilitate experiments on various topics in addition to sky watching, block level science and a maths exhibition and will offer hands-on understanding to the students. Around ten thousand students and 200 teachers will benefit from this initiative and it will create awareness about Science and Technology among locals.

The Mobile Lab was inaugurated by Captain P K Mishra, COO, APM Terminals Pipavav in the presence of Sarpanch, Block Resource Co-ordinator and locals.

This is another step towards APM Terminals Pipavav meeting its objective of empowering the local community and students in their quest for knowledge. Together with Sanitation and Health, Female  Empowerment, and Infrastructure Development, Education and Skill Development are key focus areas for the Ports vision of “Uplifting Communities around us”. Over the years, the port has helped to improve the livelihoods of local villagers and has been a major catalyst in the lives of the community living in and around the port.

APM Terminals Pipavav also supports a local program for eradicating poverty through education’ which covers the districts Ramapara, Bherai, Kadiyali, Kumbhariya, Devapara and Shiyalbet and villages Rajula & Jafrabad taluka, reaching 18,500 people, including 4,500 students. This project aims to eradicate poverty by enhancing the education level and behavioural change among community members. The project will lead to 100% enrolment, women empowerment through adult literacy and enhanced thinking level of the target group.

Furthermore, APM Terminals Pipavav also supports skill & entrepreneurship development as a key tool for enhancing livelihoods and opportunities at grass roots level. To ensure employment of youths APM Terminals has partnered with Ambuja Cement Foundation since 2015. Youths undergo training in trades like nursing, electrician, fitter, machine operator and two-wheeler technician. The latest figures (2018) show that 92% of trainees found a placement following the training.
