Advisory: Lock stuck resolution

Dear Valued Clients,

Greetings from APM Terminals Mumbai!

We come across cases of ‘container lock-stuck’ during container handling operations at the terminal. These cases need to be resolved in a timely and safe manner for due planned movement of the container. Since the resolution of such cases requires certain inputs from the box-operator’s end, we are sharing the process herewith to align expectations over resolution of the same:

 Activity  Responsible
Offload lock stuck container in 04K yard  Yard Executive
Mail to Documentation Exe / Planning  AM about lock stuck container  Wharf Executive
Mail to Shipping Line about lock stuck container  Documentation Executive
Provide cargo detail with indemnity letter and upload ASR  Shipping Line
Forward cargo details received from Shipping Line to Safety department for approval.  Planning AM
Approval for hot work permission after verifying details provided by Shipping Line  Safety Dept
Inform Ops AM to carry out Hot work basis approval received  Planning AM
Apply for permit to work for lock removal  Ops AM
Approval for permit to work for lock removal  Shift Manager , Engg. , Safety
Lock removal by Hot Work  Engg. Team
Inform Planning AM about lock removal completed  Ops AM
Inform Documentation Exe to release container for the delivery & to Shipping line to deploy TT for the delivery  Planning AM

The chart above details the various desks involved to resolve the issue of lock-stuck, safely, and the same shall be greatly expedited if the cargo details with indemnity letter and ASR is shared promptly to help the team execute further action.

Further to the above, please note that lock-stuck removal activity is carried out in day light hours to ensure safety of the workmen resolving the same. Also, hot-work involved, if any, is carried out in dry weather only.

Thanks and regards.
