Port Congestion
APM Terminals Mobile, AL has been proud to have taken various precautions during COVID19. There have been various efforts from the terminal staff and our partners to keeping cargo moving. While some ports have experienced labor issues, the Mobile terminal staff and ILA labor have continued training and staffing of positions. Our labor force is strong and we would like to thank all of the local ILA leaders and labor force for keeping operations running as near normal as anyone could expect.
- Extra Gate daily gate hour. This have been available to all drayage providers for a few years now. Currently only 5 companies utilize this offering. Anyone interested, please contact the APM Terminals help group MOBCS.
- Immediate release of containers from vessels. While various other ports will have customer await the final discharge of an entire vessel, APM Terminals Mobile, AL allows customers to pickup their cargo immediately after discharge of the individual container.
- Weekend gate options – The Mobile, AL team takes request for a extra gate on the weekend for customers needing extra gate hours. There has been limited requests for this usage over the past months.
- Daily Import pickup notifications – Drayage providers enter their pickup request, separate of the drop off portion of their request. Hence we have requested that drayage providers enter all of their import pickups one day prior. The terminal can hence action these request and help keep truck traffic flowing. Currently we only get 22% of the next day import pickups entered the previous day.
- Dedication to solid turn times – Our year to date average for truck turn times is 52 minutes with 82% of all transactions being dual transactions. In Oct we have maintained 58 min turn times and today as an example we had 51 min turn time. We publish our turn times on our web site for transparency.
Off Port Storage
The current concern is cargo continuing to arrive to US Ports, but not enough cargo getting picked up. Mobile, AL has entertained request for off port storage options. We have offered 3 options to this point based and hope to have a 4th option available by early next week. This allows customers keep containers flowing from the port area while not utilizing additional chassis. This can help various supply chain issues. Inquires on this option can email mobcs@apmterminals.com for request.
