APM Terminals ranks third in Mexican Pacific on third anniversary

logo-3-aniv-sin-fondo-rgbThree years since operations commenced at APM Terminals Lázaro Cárdenas, the terminal ranks third in the Mexican Pacific for the operation of contained cargo. Its value proposition includes personalized services, technological innovation and state-of-the-art equipment.

For Mexico, having a semi-automated terminal puts it among just 5% of terminals around the world with this state-of-the-art technology. Automation of the container yard and specialized equipment has moved the Mexican logistics chain to the forefront of global infrastructure and a link in the international logistics chain.

Digitization for increased efficiency

These first three years have seen the implementation of innovative tools in the company’s commercial platform and App, benefitting all users of the terminal through real-time visibility of container movements, which increase efficiency and speed up administrative transactions.

APM Terminals Lázaro Cárdenas has two key strategic foundations: customer service and global standards. The terminal has benefitted from using globally implemented methodologies, such as Lean, sharing of best practices, and customer focus groups to identify the needs of each customer niche or market, and translate these into standardized processes, electronic tools and digitization that add value to the customers supply chain.

Working hand-in-hand with customers

"The challenge has not been easy,” says John Sánchez, Commercial Manager of APM Terminals Mexico, "It has involved walking hand-in-hand with the client through workshops aimed at finding integrated solutions that meet the individual needs of each client".

“At Lázaro Cárdenas, APM Terminals has increased direct and indirect employment in the local community and helped develop specialized skills for the Mexican logistics industry,” says José Rueda Salinas, CEO of APM Terminals Mexico. “For example, we’re the only terminal in Mexico to use shuttle carrier cranes, therefore we needed an international development plan for our staff to learn from the best performing terminals around the world."

Supporting the community

The terminal has also implemented a number of Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives that support the promotion of socioeconomic development, health and safety in the community, environmental protection and support with strategic donations in education and training, in line with strategic global guidelines.

The company's challenge in its third year of operations, will be to continue to drive economic and social development, creating sustainable benefits for the ongoing development of Mexico's businesses.
