APM Terminals Poti remains committed to its expansion vision – acquiring additional space for the container yard and increasing its berth capacity by 50,000 TEUs
As part of its ongoing programme of capacity development and operational improvement, APM Terminals Poti has purchased and upgraded 5.4 hectares of land in close proximity to the port. The multimillion-dollar investment in The Triangle involves the development of previously unused land, adding storage capacity, and improving operational capabilities for port customers.
Currently, APM Terminals Poti serves as the key gateway for Georgia and the Caucasus, as well as being a reliable hub that is growing in importance for Central Asian countries seeking to diversify their logistics routes.
To improve the productivity of vessel operations and maximize vessel interchange efficiency, the company has introduced a Pre-Stacking process. Pre-Stacking offsets the upfront cost for APM Terminals Poti of bringing containers in advance from off-dock terminals against greater control over vessel operations. This drives increased efficiency whilst improving safety. Overall, Pre-Stacking is APM Terminals Poti’s initiative to ensure that the container-handling industry in Poti continues to evolve while also keeping port operations competitive in the Black Sea region.
The additional capacity which The Triangle provides is an important element in developing our Pre-Stacking capabilities. Additionally, the increased storage space strengthens Poti’s ability to handle new projects that Georgia previously could not accommodate due to infrastructure and space limitations.
APM Terminals Poti plans to leverage its expanded capabilities to attract additional cargo from the South Caucasus and Central Asian markets, demonstrating our commitment to developing Georgia as a vital and thriving transportation hub for the region.
