‘Stay Safe’ initiatives at APM Terminals Poti

To ensure continuous operations, APM Terminals Poti keeps working 24/7 and servicing customers without interruption. To ensure the health and safety of its employees and visitors, the port has adpoted new obtained precautionary measures to deal with the challenges caused by COVID-19.

Since the very first day the pandemic was announced, APM Terminals Poti has applied a range of preventative methods to reduce the risk of the spread of virus within the port territory. Regular disinfection of all terminal facilities, equipment and floating units, as well as daily medical checks and the provision of full hygienic PPE to  our employees, we ensure all health guidelines are properly considered and followed. For effective virus detection within the port, Poti Sea Port Corporation has teamed up with “GeoMedService”  medical service provider which is in full readiness for emergency response and has pre-set Temporary Isolation Room at the port area.

APM Terminals Poti Customer Service Center has been modified with distance marking, voice notification & illustrations on the screens, to encourage safe behavior of our end-users. In addition to this, customers are now being serviced through transparent shield acting as a physical barrier and reducing the risk of potential spread of infection.

As  for the strategic aspect, to make sure the key infrastructure vital for the country and the region remains operational in a sustainable way, the company has developed a robust plan, currently on stand-by, to arrange isolation of a group of employees working on operationally critical positions to maximally safeguard them from the virus and be prepared to keep the port running in case the situation worsens.

In these difficult times, employees remain the top priority for the company. As an immediate response to the situation, the Employee Support Fund mutually financed by the employees and the company initiated a campaign to support employees or their immediate family members who cannot return to Georgia due to Covid-19, specifically for financial problems, with funding air ticket fees.

It is also noteworthy that, despite of the economic situation and labor market conditions, in accordance to the benefits and pay policy, the company went ahead as normal with its annual increase for employee salaries and the issue of annual bonuses in April.

“As our employees’ health is imperative, our colleagues in critical positions are fully complying with the guidelines and additional safety rules in these sensitive times. Considering this, and with part of our staff working from home, we continue to drive business and keep global trade moving with even more effort and we’ll continue to do so. In addition to this, as a company with high social responsibility, we continue supporting the community with different initiatives and aids as we believe that only together, we can win this battle against the invisible enemy,” said Keld Mosgaard Christensen, Managing Director of APM Terminals Poti.
