Customer Advisory – Reefer Handling Best Practices

APM terminals Pipavav remains committed to enhancing operational efficiency and ensuring quick turnaround times of vessels calling Pipavav Port. To support this objective, we regularly review and optimize our procedures.

We have observed process improvements could be made in handling and monitoring of reefer containers for which we request you to kindly adhere to the following best practices:

  • Ensure your reefer technician is physically present at the terminal during the final 3 hours before vessel departure completion.
  • Reefer technicians should proactively inspect all reefer units after loading to confirm proper functioning thus avoiding last minute vessel related delays
  • In the rare event that any reefer units are found to be malfunctioning prior commencement of loading then please do shut out the same and arrange container repair or back to town per your SOP.
  • Should the reefer malfunction happen post loading and can not be fixed on board then request same be offloaded before the vessel’s pilot boarding thus minimising vessel departure time.
  • In all events of any reefer malfunctioning post-loading, we seek the support of the designated ship officer to promptly inform the vessel agent and the terminal to arrange timely shore-side support.
