Pipavav 2016 Star Award Winner
APM Terminals Pipavav was named winner of the Gujarat Star Awards 2016 in the category of “Emerging Port of the Year for Ro/Ro Operations”.
The fifth annual Gujarat Star Awards ceremony, was held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat State, India on November 19th. The event was organized by the Daily Shipping Times, India’s oldest maritime industry publication, with the support of the Gujarat Maritime Board, and is one of the Gujarat Region's most prestigious maritime industry distinctions. The nominees for each of the categories are judged upon several criteria, including volumes handled, operational performance, efficiency parameters, cargo handling capabilities, year-on-year growth, safety performance and improvement, IT proficiency, customer satisfaction and performance-based data.
In August 2015, APM Terminals Pipavav began operations of a new automobile handling facility and successfully handled its first Ro/Ro vessel. In January 2016, the maiden voyage of Hoegh Autoliners called Pipavav, to load small and mid-sized Ford’s passenger cars for export from the Ford factory in Sanand, Gujarat. Since the beginning of Ro/Ro operations at APM Terminals Pipavav, over 10,000 cars have been shipped through the port.
APM Terminals Pipavav, is India's first port in the private sector, and serves as a gateway for the West Coast of India for containers, bulk and liquid cargo. APM Terminals holds a 43% share in Port Pipavav and assumed managerial control in May 2005. Container throughput was 718,000 TEUs in 2015, along with approximately 3 million tons of bulk cargo. Current annual general cargo capacities include 5 million metric tons of dry bulk, 2 million metric tons of liquid bulk and approximately 250,000 passenger cars.
