APM Terminals CEO visits ZPMC facilities in China

APM Terminals CEO Morten Engelstoft met with ZPMC Chairman Song Hai Liang on March 22nd while in China, and visited the Shanghai-based crane manufacturer’s facilities on March 24th, where current orders for APM Terminals are nearing completion.   Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Company Limited (ZPMC) is a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), and is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of port and terminal cranes and cargo-handling equipment.

Established in 1992, ZPMC has been doing business with the Maersk Group for the past 15 years, during which APM Terminals has become one of ZPMC’s top customers.  ZPMC supplies the APM Terminals global terminal network as well with Rubber-Tire Gantry Cranes (RTGs), Automated Rail-Mounted Gantry Cranes (ARMGS), standard Rail Mounted Gantry Cranes (RMGs), and automation and crane heightening services. APM Terminals currently has 80 cranes on order with ZPMC. 

While touring their manufacturing center on Changxing (CX) Island in Shanghai, Mr. Engelstoft saw STS cranes being built for the new APM Terminals projects in Moin, Costa Rica and Vado, Italy, and the expanding APM Terminals operations in Mobile, Alabama, USA. He also visited ZPMC’s new robot-welding workshops, and held discussions with ZPMC President Fred Huang on potential future projects. Mr. Song and Mr. Huang have been invited by Mr. Engelstoft to visit The Hague, where further discussions on cooperative efforts in the areas of innovation and technology in terminals of the future will take place.
