APM Terminals Moín receives Maritime Award of the Americas 2024 granted by the OAS
- Initiative promotes women's empowerment through entrepreneurship
- Project called Eclosión strengthens local economy through specialized workshops, personalized mentoring and access to seed capital
During the XVIII Port & Maritime Congress held in Guatemala, APM Terminals Moín received the Maritime Award of the Americas 2024 in the category of Women's Empowerment and Equality, granted by the Inter-American Committee on Ports of the OAS (CIP-OAS). This recognition highlights the terminal's initiatives to promote inclusion, equal opportunities and economic development in the local community.
The award was given specifically in recognition of the Eclosión program, implemented since March 2022. This initiative has boosted female entrepreneurship and strengthened the local economy through specialized workshops, personalized mentoring and access to seed capital, which have already directly benefited 32 participants, 72% of whom are women.
“At APM Terminals Moín, our purpose is to go beyond port operations to positively impact our communities. Eclosión reflects our commitment to inclusion and local development, offering opportunities that transform lives. This program seeks to transform ideas into sustainable projects that benefit families and the community at large,” said Krizia Canton, APM Terminals' Social Responsibility Coordinator.
Recognition. The OAS Maritime Award of the Americas is an international recognition that celebrates successful and innovative practices that promote excellence in the port sector of the continent. In this edition, which commemorates a decade of recognition, APM Terminals Moín stood out among 20 nominations from seven countries, demonstrating its commitment to equality, diversity and sustainable development.
“The 10th edition of the CIP-OAS Maritime Award of the Americas was designed to recognize successful practices carried out by the public or private sector that promote the integral development of the port and maritime sector in the region. In this regard, we extend our most sincere greetings and congratulations to the winners of the Maritime Award of the Americas 2024,” said the head of the Inter-American Secretariat of the Committee on Ports, Jorge Durán.
Initiative. This program symbolizes the birth of transformative ideas. Designed to empower terminal employees and their families, the program has facilitated the creation of 16 small businesses, such as bakeries, jewelry stores, and skin care brands, generating new sources of income and contributing to the sustainable development of Limón.
With a total investment of $36,000, APM Terminals Moín has not only provided start-up financing, but also essential tools such as business plan development, financial management, and marketing. Through entrepreneurship fairs and “Shark Tank” style presentations, participants have had the opportunity to validate and enhance their ideas.
The program also encourages the creation of strategic alliances with institutions such as Luz Consultante and local cooperatives, strengthening the sustainability of the projects.
