Cutting-edge OCR technology for more reliable container handling

Since 2019, APM Terminals Gothenburg has been at the forefront of integrating optical character recognition (OCR) technology into its truck and railway flows. Excitingly, we now proudly announce the successful deployment of OCR technology on our ship cranes. Jasmin Mujdzic, the driving force behind this implementation, shares:

"We are proud to be the first existing APM terminal in the world to successfully streamline the flow using OCR on ship cranes. The technology enables improved planning and optimisation of the handling process while minimising the risk of loading containers incorrectly. For our customers, this means increased security and a more stable flow."

With the introduction of OCR technology in all flows, all containers that pass APM Terminals are scanned for information such as container numbers and other relevant data. This improves monitoring of each container during the handling process and the ability for customers to track their container’s journey through the entire terminal. Moreover, the automated registration of each container directly into the operating system eliminates the need for manual intervention, bolstering operational efficiency.

As each container is photographed, our customers can now request images to ensure that the container remains in the same condition as the time it entered our terminal.
