Gearing up 2022 to meet your needs

In 2021, the need for smart and reliable logistics solutions was greater than ever. APM Terminals Gothenburg is now making investments to meet increasing demand and to continue to deliver robust service for yet another year that has begun with logistical disruptions and increased pressure on capacity and flexibility.

Logistics system disruptions and strained staffing conditions as a result of Covid-19 are phenomena that many, especially in the logistics industry, are currently experiencing. The health and safety of our employees comes first. Nonetheless, we strive to do our utmost to help our customers continue to meet the Swedish market’s demand for reliable and flexible container freight to and from the world market.

Railway records and new shuttles

During the past year, APM Terminals Gothenburg handled more rail volume than ever before, exceeding the latest volume record from 2014.

"Compared to 2020, the past year saw an 18% increase in rail volumes, reaching an all-time high. There are many reasons for this, but as an example, goods owners see that rail is a very reliable, effective alternative with great climate benefits. The shortage of drivers has also contributed to many actors choosing rail transport over road. At APM Terminals, we are constantly working to free up rail space, of which, there is still plenty," says Svante Altås, Sr. Sales Executive at APM Terminals.

As rail volumes reach record numbers, the Green Gothenburg Gateway concept is growing, which means that more and more goods reach Sweden’s largest terminal within 24 hours, regardless of where in the country the goods are loaded or unloaded. As early as 1 February this year, APM Terminals and the Gothenburg goods hub will be welcoming a total of six new shuttles from Insjön, Piteå and Falköping.

24/7 service

The pandemic is now in its third year and the need for flexible service has been great from the very start. In order to meet this need and still contribute to continuous, smooth logistics flows, APM Terminals will be further expanding its service starting the first week in February.

“Our 24-hour service means that our customers can run two circuits per day, one during the day and one during the night, not to mention that we are able to receive additional trains as needed,” says Homam Mansour, Rail Planner at APM Terminals Gothenburg.

Three new straddle carriers

In order to improve capacity in all flows, APM Terminals has invested in an additional three, new, state-of-the-art, HVO-powered straddle carriers, which were commissioned on 3 January. The terminal now has a total of 40 carriers with the capacity to lift two 20-foot containers simultaneously.

How can we help you?

APM Terminals strives to support your business to the greatest degree possible. As a key societal function, our situation going forward will be facilitated as the authorities have decided to make exceptions to the quarantine rules. If you have any questions, requests or comments, please contact sales.got@apmterminals.com.

In order to achieve the best possible flow, we ask that you collect your import container as soon as possible and turn in your export container as close to departure as possible. Many thanks for continuing to maintain the high flow of goods to and from Sweden!
