New management structure to unlock synergies at APM Terminals Scandinavian operations

Effective January 1, 2020, Dennis Lenthe Olesen, currently Global Head of Operations at APM Terminals, will assume the role of Managing Director for APM Terminals Nordics. This joint management structure will enable APM Terminals Aarhus and Gothenburg to strengthen collaboration and unlock operational synergies. The terminals will remain separate legal entities in Denmark and Sweden.

Terminals Nordics effective January 1, 2020

“I am pleased to announce Dennis in this new and exciting role, as we embark on an important journey of unlocking further synergies between our two terminals and strengthening collaboration in the Nordics area”, comments Igor Van Den Essen, head of Terminals Europe at APM Terminals. “Aarhus and Gothenburg will become stronger and more competitive together, which will also positively impact the service to our customers and product development.”

While both terminals will be managed jointly and be marketed as APM Terminals Nordics, they will continue to operate as separate legal entities in Denmark and Sweden respectively.

Supporting local economies

“Both our facilities in Scandinavia have over the past years focused on operational excellence, productivity, cost efficiency, safety and improved customer experience. They have become broadly recognised market players and significant contributors to the economies in Denmark and Sweden and to respective local communities. This important role will continue going forward under the new management structure,” adds Igor Van Den Essen.

Dennis Olesen joined Maersk in 1991 and has been with APM Terminals since 2005, holding various positions, including Managing Director for the Zeebrugge terminal, Chief Operating Officer for the Europe Region, Head of Terminal Asset Management, Managing Director for APM Terminals MedPort Tangier and – most recently – Global Head of Operations.

“I am very much looking forward to this new assignment, as we continue to increase our competitive edge, take advantage of new digital systems and continuously build solutions for our customers,” says Dennis Olesen.
